Alcohol and Marijuana in Combination
Even in nowadays’ society, alcohol and tobacco are still prevailing over marijuana – at least marijuana users often want others to think so ;) However, parties will be parties. Quite often people face a situation when weed can be smoked after drinking, or drinking can be done as an addition to cannabis high. Is the combination of marijuana and alcohol harmful? Is it possible to smoke hashish along with booze and what are the consequences? Surprisingly, some people are still wondering which is more harmful – alcohol or cannabis.
Booze vs Marijuana – Science
Comparing marijuana and alcohol may be an open question only for those who have very little experience with either of them. In the USA, scientists not only did research, but also officially declared cannabis a less dangerous substance than alcohol. According to statistical data, in 40% of violence cases the aggressor is drunk.
Moreover, an experiment was conducted in the Netherlands that proved the tendency of marijuana to reduce aggression, while alcohol provoked it. Also, scientists noticed that domestic violence is less common in families where cannabis is smoked.
Mixing Alcohol with Marijuana – Consequences
Mixing booze with cannabis is not recommendable for a number of reasons:
- The antiemetic properties of cannabinoids;
- The sedative effects of cannabis;
- The opposing psychological effects of marijuana and alcohol.
Only three reasons – but they are more than enough! “antiemetic” means that cannabis suppresses nausea. At an alcohol party, unfortunately, this means a higher risk of drinking much more than you would without cannabis. This is how people get intoxicated with alcohol, sometimes even with a need for an ambulance.
As for the sedative effect, when a certain concentration of alcohol in blood is reached, marijuana can simply turn you off. In fact, the combo of weed and booze is sometimes jocundly called “time machine”: you drink, you smoke and then it’s the morning after. Remember, cannabis alleviates hangovers! If drinking heavily, it’s better to spare the buds for the next day.
Now what about alcohol and cannabis conflicting? We won’t go into details on how both substances affect the nervous system. Instead, let’s simply compare the typical behavior of someone drunk (chatter, noisy behavior, activity) and a person on weed (relaxation, day-dreaming). When both substances are in the human body together, the mind is heavily clouded. And the energy loss for processing this condition will be a lot bigger compared to smoking and drinking separately.
It is not difficult to conclude that these substances are not the best combination. Our advice is not to mix marijuana and alcohol!

How to Drink and Get High Cleverly
There is no difference between hashish, buds or edibles in terms of toxicity – neither is toxic unless the pusher laced the stuff with other drugs. As a rule, cannabis hangover is hardly noticeable: a decreased vitality and slower thinking, of which experienced smokers mostly take no notice.
It’s common knowledge that even the smallest doses of alcohol kills an amount of neurons in the brain. Cannabis, on the contrary, has no such effect and can even be used for inhibiting the development of Alzheimer's syndrome.
If you want to be healthy, it’s better to drink as little alcohol as possible. It would also be very wise to restrain from smoking after a couple of drinks. Going to do it anyway? Then smoke at your place, where you can go to bed at any convenient point without worrying about your image. Taking both cannabis and booze when you are at someone else’s territory – definitely not a good idea..
So, is there any healthy combination of cannabinoids and alcohol in existence? Yes, there is! Some growers make hemp tinctures on alcohol, for which usually stems and leaves. The effect of such an elixir is similar to both of the original substances (high and drunk), but more like a synthesis. Such a tincture is a milder influence on the human brain and body.
