Best Indoor Varieties

    Choosing a cannabis strain for indoor growing is particularly relevant when spring is near. When looking for an appropriate strain, most users are interested in low-height or mid-height varieties with moderate odor. From the point of view of an experienced growers, the crucial criteria are often such:

* reliability – such marijuana has to be sturdy since the conditions aren’t natural;

* fertility – most indoor growers are limited in space, so each plant should yield as much as possible;

* potency – again, without real sunlight, the strength may decrease, which is why strains potent above average are a priority.

    Based on these three attributes, Bob Marley’s seed store has compiled a top list of cannabis seeds for indoor cultivation. We took into consideration our information as well as grower reviews and recommendations from the breeders.

The Basics of Indoor Cultivation

    Are you new to this? Experienced gardeners may skip this part. For novice growers, we’ll outline the main points to consider before starting indoor cultivation.

Soil or Hydro?

    Hydroponic setup is a much more productive method of growing: faster development, more yields and a stronger impact are its pluses. However, for people without several cases of growing under their belt, growing in soil is more recommendable. This way there’s less danger of losing the whole plantation due to a mistake. What also speaks in favor of soil growing is that “natural” buds have a more pleasant flavor.

The Odor: Preventive Measures

    If you’ve never had blooming cannabis bushes in your apartment, there are chances of underestimating the importance of air filtration. Without using a vent and a charcoal filter to take the air from the grow room outside, it is better not to grow marijuana in your apartment. Even if the herb is legal in your country, living with such a “smelly room-mate” is simply unhealthy.

Control the Temperature

    Air temperature of 21-26°C is optimal for marijuana. For instance, let’s say air temperature in your apartment is 30°C. That’s admissible for cannabis growing. But if your HPS lamp adds 5°C of heat, then even Afghani varieties will hardly avoid getting sick. The heat is particularly damaging to flowering cannabis, as it destroys trichomes as well as cannabinoids. If your home is a hot place, you should keep the growing lights on during the nighttime instead of day-time..

Train your Plants!

    The natural "Christmas-tree" shape of cannabis serves the purpose of multiplication. Why? Because in the wild pollen is carried by wind. Hence, growing buds abundantly at the top a good strategy for a plant to catch some of that pollen. But growers are interested in blossom. That’s why it is desirable to promote horizontal development and to make sure that floral growth expands at all levels of the stem and along branches. Besides, training makes for more rational use of growing space. LST (bending) or ScroG are universal, whereas more stressful techniques like FIM / topping, supercropping, mainlining are for photoperiod-dependant plants only.

What’s Better, Indoor or Outdoor Growing?

    Outdoor plants tend to grow larger and more potent. However, they also need to avoid being ravaged by local insects or rodents, or even birds. Another pro of indoor growing is that the season matters very little in this situation. In addition, a home cannabis plantation will surely be more secure in terms of attracting attention of humans. In fact, indoor cultivation done carefully and with appropriate strains may be just as rewarding!

Automatic-Flowering and Photoperiod-Dependant – What Does It Mean?

*    Photoperiod-dependant varieties start blooming when you decrease the daily light period. Plainly speaking, you keep them on a 16/8 light schedule during vegetation. Then you decrease the “daytime”, switching to 12/12 This allows you to extend the growing stage and achieve the desired plant size and shape.

*    Autoflowering strains end vegetation automatically after 3-4 weeks of growth. On one hand, the plants are compact, easier to handle and faster to yield. On the other hand, they yield less.

    If you would like to work hard for an impressive harvest, plant a photoperiodic strain and train it. By the way, autoflowers can rarely be pruned - the short vegetation does not leave time to recover from such a procedure. Nevertheless, with a powerful light and competent use of LST, a decent harvest is possible on autoflowering material.

    So, if you are deciding which strain to grow, the first thing to do is choose between autoflowering and photoperiod-dependent. Then you simply go with the strain with an appropriate height and desirable qualities – according to your taste.
